Overview: In this application note we will explore an example application that uses a Micron RealSSD mass storage drive and a Lattice ECP3 FPGA to implement a ruggedized video/audio picture frame as a replacement for critical signage applications in industrial applications. This ruggedized version of the popular consumer graphic picture frame can also communicate important time dependant information in industrial factory applications (perhaps to warn or inform operators or technicians during critical steps) without the need for a computer interface. These information frames can be placed anywhere in the building where the sign content depends on the time or state of the equipment or process. Topics in this application note are organized by design task (Device Selection, FPGA Design, and Board Design) and each topic is a stand-alone section, with a short introduction or overview, followed by the detailed design guidelines. |
